Großglockner

A month ago my family and I decided to go on a hike close to the Großglockner – the highest mountain of Austria. It was really impressive to walk the road near its peak and the scenic glacier that supplements it. We had a magnificent view on this sunny day and enjoyed the gorgeous panorama the whole day.

A Photographic Journey

Martin Parr is one of my favourite photographers of all time. His current exhibition “A Photographic Journey” at Kunst Haus Wien is ending soon (on 02.11.2016) – I went all the way to Vienna just for this exhibition yesterday. The Kunst Haus Wien is a gorgeous museum designed by Friedensreich Hundertwasser and hosts the world’s only permanent exhibition of Hundertwasser’s works as well as temporary exhibitions such as Martin Parr’s photographic journey. It was a great experience to finally see Martin Parr’s pictures in real life and get the giggles because of the humoristic way his photographs are taken. If you are in Vienna right now I would highly recommend “A Photographic Journey”. Martin Parr has also created the photo series “Cakes and Balls” – a series dealing with the clichés and traditions in Vienna – especially for this exhibition. Don’t miss it!

Listen to your art

Lately I was documenting the exhibition opening “Begegnung von Industrie und Kunst in Althofen” with Assunta Abdel Azim  Mohamed, Barbara Bernsteiner, Matthias Peyker and Eduard Holzer at the Treibacher Industrie AG. It was also the first time that I was part of the organizing team of this event. It was a great project to work on. The group exhibition can be seen until 14.10.2016.

From Pyynikki to Pispala

Whenever I am in Tampere and I am looking forward taking a walk crossing my all-time-favourite districts Pyynikki and Pispala. Pispala is definitely the cutest and probably most romantic village in Tampere to discover and as far as I know it’s already widely considered as the most beautiful district in town. The unique urban design of this area is very inspiring and could be featured in every housing or home decor magazine. I discovered a great circular route where you come along those beautiful restored wooden houses and additional get magnificent views towards the two large lakes. If you are more into industrial charm the city centre of Tampere with its brick buildings is the right place to be. There are also lovely local shops to find - in case you want to add a little shopping tour to your walk.

Close to the horizon

Photographer Catherine Opie once said „The biggest cliché in photography is sunrise and sunset.” For understandable reasons the sky at this day- or night-time is a fantastic photo subject. First of all no sunrise or sunset is identical and offers many differences. In some the sun appears as an orange dot rising or disappearing into the distant horizon, in other it is not visible at all. The colours of the sky can shift from light to dark as in a colourful painting and sometimes it even looks like that there are actually some brushstrokes in the sky.
When I was in Finland a few weeks ago I couldn’t resist taking pictures of the sunset at Lake Näsijärvi and Pyhäjärvi. For me it still has something magical when sky and water meet...

Särkänniemi

No matter when you go to Särkänniemi it’s always fun. The weather can be quite cloudy and your day itself a bit grey, Särkänniemi will change that and will bring you in a cheerful mood. The amusement park provides many popular and funny attractions for visitors of any age. There is also an art museum which is definitely worth a visit. The current exhibition presents ten hyper-realistic and life-like sculptures of the internationally significant artist Ron Mueck as well as a series of photographs depicting the sculptor at work. If you are in Tampere I would highly recommend you to visit the Sara Hildén Art Museum and Särkänniemi.

The gem

When going abroad I rather like having my own home than staying in an impersonal hotel. First of all you get a little insight into foreign cultures even if it’s a very individual option how to live and arrange your home; secondly it feels much more like living in the country of your choice.

It was already the second time that I stayed at this lovely place close to Pyynikki. I don’t know if this was the reason for it or maybe the combination with the amazing interior design that made me feel like home at the very first moment. Alma’s apartment is the perfect place to have a great cup of tea, play piano in the afternoon, have a dance in the spacious light-flooded room or just listen to music or take a nap in the comfy bed. There are plenty of lovely notes placed in the apartment that remind you that life is beautiful and make the place so charming as it is.
I really enjoyed my stay and so love to think back to this wonderful time.

Tampere facades

On Wednesday I returned home from my holidays in Tampere, Finland. I have already been there many times in the past years. When I picked up my camera for one of my first walks there I knew I wanted to take pictures of a subject I haven’t take pictures of in Tampere. As someone who is in love with architecture I decided to photograph the interesting facades which have awakened my interest. The faces of buildings somehow represent the alteration in the city. So many houses were under construction, some got demolished and yet others were just simply beautiful in their current state. All those buildings are worth seeing and among them there are a few popular ones – just take a close look and I am curious if you spot them.
In the next weeks I will post some other series of my Finland trip.

Garden of Love

Whenever I need a rest I like to go in our garden. There are so many variations every day to discover, because the vegetation is changing very fast. On one day the flowers are blooming, on the other day they are fading – it gets a touch of mortality, which is very interesting to document. Also the light is different every day and makes various compositions possible.
